Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started out as reporter for TV and radio within Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She then became a Washington general correspondent of NBC News two years later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. When she joined NBC News in 1992, Mitchell was named as the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter in NBC News. Mitchell was on the panel of the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the show. Mitchell was part of the panel for 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. She traveled alongside Ronald Reagan in numerous visits to world summits and reported frequently.
